According to Bornu traditions, the Bade and the related Ngizim of Potiskum. Who today comprise the emirate of Bade were the first people to migrate from Kanem round the north side of Lake Chad and reach the Komadugu Yobe, at that time when the So were still the dominant power in Bornu. They seem to have paused in their westward migration at Dillawa, east of Geidam; the area still sometimes referred to as Badar, the name of the site claimed by the Bedde as that of their original home in the east.

When they reached Dadigar in Borsari, they split up under the four sons of their leader. the eldest, Ago, remaned where he was and so founded the Bedde dynasty. The second, Muza, turned north and is said to have established a Tuareg dynasty.Amsagiya(Arumsage) continued westwards to found the Ngazar round Potiskum.

Uncertainty exists about when this took place, but some scholars have estimated that the bedde arrived well before the foundation of Birni Ngazargamu perhaps as early as c.1300. during the reign of Dyagana at Tagali, the Kanuri built Birni Ngazargamu. Dyagana travelled thither to salute the Mai on behalf of the people of Bedde and obtained the sarauta or title of Dugum. The Galadima of Bornu was apointed chima, that is to say 'Overlord', of Bedde.
